Breast Surgery Complications:
Complications may occur following any surgical procedure.
Be sure that an decision to have this operation is made
with your full awareness of possible risks.
Complications may include infections, alterations in
sensation of the nipple/areolar area or elsewhere over
the breast mound, bleeding; skin loss may delay healing
It is not uncommon for incisions to pull apart. A wound
separation, will prolong the healing process.
Understanding Risks of breast surgery
Risks and potential complications of surgery must be
discussed between you and your surgeon.
Breast Surgery suggested questions
Discuss reactions to anesthesia, blood accumulation that
may need to be drained surgically, and infection.
Discuss changes in nipple or breast sensation after surgery
Breast Implants
Breast implants don't last forever. If a saline-filled
implant breaks, its contents are harmlessly absorbed by
the body within hours. Rupture can occur as a result of
trauma to the chest, but more commonly it occurs on it's
own for no apparent reason..
Your surgeon may recommend examinations such as ultrasound
or an MRI scan. The presence of breast implants could delay
early detection of breast cancer.
